About HazardSports

HazardSports wasn’t built in a boardroom, launched with a business plan or a branding kit. It was born from stacking miles in cars and on motorcycles. Performing maintenance at curbsides, driveways and sometimes on the side of the road making emergency field repairs. HazardSports is the result of years of conversations with other riders and car lovers — at race events, in parking lots, gas stations, automotive shows and campgrounds. Now it’s also a digital place where we share what we do, how we do it, and what we've learned along the way (sometimes the hard way).

Like any passion, if you stick with it long enough, it will grow with you — and hopefully you still remember where you came from. These days, wrenching in a garage still feels like a privilege when looking back at the decades of being an “outside dog.” On this site, we use the term “Bike Builds” as a clean way to organize long-term projects and upgrades. It’s not about fabricating showpieces or selling bolt-on kits. We’re not a shop, and we don’t offer professional instruction. No certified mechanics or instructors here. No doctors or therapists either — so following what we do would be a mistake!

We merely share with others what we do and the products we've used in the same way one enthusiast talks to another! We have met many other bikers and car lovers on the road that have shared many stories and bits of information that we could only view as entertainment! But that allowed us to pick up a few ideas that we have tweaked into something more appropriate for our particular use case. THAT is what it’s all about! What is good for one may not be precisely perfect for another! What someone else enjoys may even be the worst thing for you!

That’s how you should view HazardSports. We are sharing our experience for entertainment, and any ideas you get from our content are YOUR ideas — not ours! What we do is wrench, ride, break stuff, fix it again, and share the process with as much entertainment, honesty and sarcasm as we can pack into a video or a webpage. Riding and wrenching on vehicles can be dangerous if done improperly! Every individual has their own skill level and experience. Get the proper training and support that YOU need, and manage your own risks in the way that YOU feel comfortable!

The Backstory

My name is Paul aka Cappuccino. I’ve been a backyard mechanic since 1989 — back when you had to flip through a greasy Haynes manual and squint at grainy black-and-white photos to figure out which bolt to remove. There was no YouTube. No forums. No "pinch to zoom." I had no training or experience. But what I did have was a broken car and not enough money to pay someone else to fix it!

As time went on, I did make friends who would offer advice and help. I have been fortunate enough to learn from people far better than me! And for a lifetime I have been talking with other enthusiasts and learning along the way. Passing as much of this as I can to my son is a priority, and making fun videos and webpages is a way to catalogue some of it.

By 1994, I was riding and working on motorcycles. I had influences — some good, some terrible — and I shamefully enjoyed every bit of all of it! As a result, some of the standard practices I may be accustomed to may be a bit unorthodox! Doesn’t make it right or wrong – just not recommended!

Through all of it, I developed my own system for staying safe, motor running, and occasionally doing things the hard way. What I have learned about mistakes is that it is an expensive and sometimes painful way to learn deeper lessons that make it easier to explain to others.

We are here to SHARE information not EXTRACT information! Things are kept simple around here — no bloated design, no cluttered navigation, and definitely no creepy tracking games.
